The National Writing Project resource pages are a great place to find inspiring articles and resources for teaching writing. Warning: you can spend hours exploring these NWP Resource Topics!
While browsing the NWP archives, I stumbled across "Growing Writers Through Collaboration" by Kathy Brody. In this article, Brody explains how she helped her 4th graders create an award-winning book. The article is brief, interesting, and full of helpful details. The instructional methods and activities promote engaged, collaborative learning and address Common Core Standards for Writing. The approach could easily be used with 3rd-8th grade classes.
